Download Discord

Discord is a free app for voice and text chat. You can use it on your computer or phone.

On Computer: Visit discord.com/download and click the download button for your system (Windows, Mac, or Linux)
On Mobile: Search "Discord" in your App Store (iPhone) or Google Play Store (Android) and download the app
Install the app by following the setup instructions
💡 What to look for:

The Discord logo is a white game controller icon on a purple background. Make sure you download the official Discord app, not similar-looking apps.

Create Your Account

Open Discord and create your free account. Don't worry - it's simple!

Open the Discord app you just installed
Click "Register" or "Sign Up"
Enter your email address and create a password
Choose a username (this is how others will see you)
Verify your email by clicking the link Discord sends you
💡 Choosing a username:

Pick a friendly name that other learners can easily remember. Many people use their first name or a nickname. You can change it later if you want!

Join Our Server

Now you're ready to join our English practice community!

Click the "Join Discord Server" button at the top of this page
Discord will open and show you our server invitation
Click the green "Accept Invite" or "Join Server" button
Welcome! You'll now see our server in your server list on the left side
💡 Finding the server:

On the left side of Discord, you'll see circular icons - these are servers. Our server will appear there. Click it to enter and see all the channels.

Start Speaking Practice

You're all set! Now let's join a voice channel and start practicing.

Look for channels with a speaker icon 🔊 - these are voice channels
Click on any voice channel to join it
You'll see your name appear in the channel with other members
Make sure your microphone is working - you'll see a green circle around your avatar when you speak
Click the microphone icon at the bottom to mute/unmute yourself
Click the headphone icon to deafen (stop hearing others) if needed
💡 Voice channel tips:
Before speaking:

Test your microphone in the voice channel. Say "Hello, can you hear me?" and wait for others to respond.

Being polite:

Wait for others to finish speaking before you start. If someone is talking, listen first!

Leaving a channel:

Click the "Disconnect" button at the bottom, or simply click on another channel or close Discord.

Topic 2 - Dating & Relationships: 7 questions about dating (connected to our "Shape of You" lesson). Can't answer? Click the link below the questions to visit the lesson page and learn!

Topic 3 - Another Lesson Topic: 7 more questions based on another lesson from our site
